Reading gives me LIFE. No, really. It does.
With five little animals...ahem, girls... 10 and under, reading is my escape from reality. It is my therapy, my joy, my best friend, my love. I've been devouring books almost all of my life and the older I get, the more I seem to love reading. It's an obsession, but a safe and healthy one and I'm okay with it!
My absolute favorite books are page-turners. Books that consume me and books that cause me to devour them in a single sitting. These types of books are perfect for summer and spring break reads. They are memorable, engaging, and fun. Some are light, some are not. But all of these books are unforgettable.
The Language of Flowers by Vanessa Diffenbaugh
This is a beautiful and magical book. I also ended up learning a lot about flowers while reading it. This novel is a story of love, fear, acceptance, forgiveness, and redemption.
Hissy Fit by Mary Kay Andrews
MKA is the queen of beach reads and it was hard to choose just one to recommend, as I love them all. If you are looking for something light, sassy, easy, and funny, pick up any of MKA's books. Hissy Fit is a great place to start.
Summer at Tiffany by Marjorie Hart
This is a sweet and light memoir about the summer Marjorie and her sorority sister spent working at Tiffany during WW2. The stories are engaging and the account of celebrating VJ Day in Times Square brought tears to my eyes.
Yes Please by Amy Poehler
This book is a fun mixture of personal anecdotes and advice. It's a quirky book, full of photos and ephemera. I underlined and highlighted almost every page.
What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty
Almost all of Moriarty's novels make good beach reads, but Alice is my favorite. It makes you think about your life choices and whether you can every truly make a fresh start.
Paper Hearts by Courtney Walsh
Just a good, clean, sweet and uncomplicated love story. For some reason I always adore love stories set in quaint and small towns, and this is no exception.
Saving Ceecee Honeycutt by Beth Hoffman
I lived in Savannah for a few years and she will always have a piece of my heart. Savannah is so vivid in this novel, she becomes one of the main characters. This book is a great combination of pure love and southern charm.
One True Loves by Taylor Jenkins Reid
Full disclosure- this one is a tear jerker. But oh is it wonderful. It's another read that leaves you pondering life choices and saying "what if?". I fell in love with all of the characters and couldn't stop reading. If you can't get a hold of One True Loves, grab any of Reid's novels. They are all excellent.
My Not So Perfect Life by Sophie Kinsella
Kinsella is my favorite chick lit author and for good reason. Her earlier Shopaholic books are among my personal favorites. My Not So Perfect Life is the perfect light palate cleanser to read on the beach. Country vs city, head vs heart..read to see which wins out in this sweet romance.
Dark Matter by Blake Crouch
This may not be a typical "beach" read because it is technically about physics. However, I have never ever read anything like this book. I couldn't put it down and when I finished it I promptly handed it to my husband. He proceeded to ignore me for an entire weekend as he devoured it, ha! It's riveting and it really makes you think about the choices you make. And at its core it is a love story, which is my favorite kind of book.
